WPA CD on Aviary Design and Management for Pheasants

WPA has often been asked to give advice on this subject, both within its Chapters and also to organisations responsible for pheasant conservation in Asia. Vice-President John Corder has put together many of the ideas that WPA members have contributed from their personal experiences and incorporated these into a computer CD. The CD needs to run using the Microsoft PowerPoint programme, and there is also an accompanying commentary using Microsoft Word.

There are some 117 different slides which illustrate the key points in the construction of aviaries for pheasants and the CD also provides many ideas on the management of pheasant species to encourage good breeding results.

The CD is obtainable for £12 from WPA headquarters. This price includes postage and packing. When ordering, please state which version of PowerPoint and Word you are using on your computer. All proceeds will be donated to WPA general funds to help keep WPA financially secure .

WPA DVD on the western Tragopan

Many members will be aware of WPAs involvement in a conservation breeding project for western tragopans in the North Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. In 2007, a total of NINE western tragopans were bred at the Sarahan Pheasantry, something never previously achieved. At the International Galliformes Symposium in Chengdu, the keeper, Alam Singh, showed a video he had made during the breeding season, including the first ever recording of a western tragopan display.

The Himachal Wildlife Division has given permission for this 18 minute DVD to be sold exclusively to WPA members. All proceeds will be used to provide further training opportunities for pheasant keepers in Himachal Pradesh; WPA and the Pheasant Specialist Group have already helped five officers from this state to obtain training in the UK and elsewhere.

The DVD costs £12 including postage and packing.
