The pheasants and their relatives are beautiful birds and this has attracted many people to them since they were first recorded. For many generations, Galliformes have had a special place in the cultures and traditions of many indigenous people, as sources of food or as part of ceremonial costume. Recently, they have continued to captivate audiences with their magnificence as people increasingly travel to exotic and remote places around the world to see birds and other wildlife in their natural haunts. As pressure on the birds and their habitats has increased, many pheasant species have become threatened. WPA hope that with greater awareness of the importance of Galliformes to an array of cultures, together with a deeper appreciation of their beauty and that of the habitats they occupy, we can remove many of the threats that they face.
